One Person Hurt in Sunday Night Fire on Howard Street in Bridgeport

One person was injured in a house fire that occured Sunday night in Bridgeport.

Fire Chief Mark Subasic, of the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department, said the fire department responded to the call just after 9 p.m. The fire was located at a duplex home on Howard Street.

Crews from Bridgeport, Wolfhurst, Brookside and Martins Ferry battled the blaze for approximately three to four hours, Subasic said.

“Crews worked well into the morning extinguishing the flames,” the department stated.

A resident of the home sustained burns and was transported to Wheeling Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

The other residents of the duplex, a couple and their two children, managed to escape unharmed.

Subasic said the home is a total loss.

As of Monday, the cause of the fire is unknown. Although the cause is unknown, Subasic said he believes it was likely an accidental fire and not arson.

Firefighters had to respond to the scene again late Monday when the fire rekindled.
