Wheeling Man Arrested in Fleeing Incident

WHEELING – Wheeling Police arrested a man Sunday after a fleeing incident in downtown Wheeling.

Police said Philip Joseph Humphries, 45, of Wheeling, was arrested on charges of fleeing, receiving or transferring stolen goods and driving while suspended.

According to police reports, an officer stopped a vehicle Sunday in the 1000 block of Market Street. Moments after the driver, identified as Humphries, stopped the vehicle, he allegedly ran from the officer, but was quickly found in the 900 block of Main Street. Officers found that Humphries was driving a stolen vehicle out of Gwinnett County, Georgia, and was wanted as a fugitive by authorities for other criminal charges in Wythe County, Virginia.

Wheeling Police said Humphries also fled from officers two days prior after driving recklessly around 36th and Jacob streets in South Wheeling. Humphries was taken to Northern Regional Jail. He was arraigned by an Ohio County Magistrate and bond was set at $10,500.
