Cameron Man Accused of Molesting Girl Over Period of Years

A man accused of sexually abusing a young girl for years on end through her childhood, spent in his care, will have his preliminary hearing today.

West Virginia State Police conducted several interviews with the alleged victim, now an adult, between October 2018 and April 2019. The woman, born in 2001, told police that when she was 6 or 7 years old, Brandon T. Midcap, 35 of Midcap Lane, Cameron, had told her to undress while near the Halcyon Hills cemetery.

On another occasion, the woman told police that Midcap had allegedly molested her after he moved into the residence on Midcap Lane. A third occasion, she told police, allegedly happened when he pulled her pants off and abused her again. The alleged victim told police the molestation stopped when she was 14 years old.

In November 2018, Midcap told police he had known the victim since she was 4 years old, and that they were “close” until she turned 16. He denied having sexual contact with her, and declined to take a polygraph test. Since the allegations came out, the girl had been placed with foster parents, Midcap told police.

Police reports indicate that Midcap was the boyfriend of the alleged victim’s mother during the time the abuse took place, and lived with them at the time.

Midcap was charged with sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, a felony, and was arrested at a previous time. The warrants for his arrest were signed in July 2020 and he has since posted bond from the Northern Regional Jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for today at 9:30 a.m. at the Marshall County Magistrate’s Office.
