Pittsburgh Man Charged With Threatening Schools, Businesses in Wheeling

A Pittsburgh police SWAT team early Tuesday arrested a Pittsburgh man accused of making threats toward schools and businesses in Wheeling.

According to information from the Pittsburgh Police Department, SWAT officers arrested the suspect, identified Monday by Wheeling police as Ryan Charles Cornforth, 30, about 5 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex on the city’s South side. Cornforth allegedly was combative, police said, and was tasered before being taken into custody.

Wheeling police said Cornforth on Monday called schools and businesses in Ohio County and made threats. A warrant was issued Monday afternoon for his arrest.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers heard windows breaking and items being broken inside of an apartment early Tuesday the suspect was believed to be in.

SWAT and negotiators responded when the suspect refused to exit the apartment. SWAT gave multiple commands for the man to exit. Entry was made into the apartment shortly before 5 a.m. The suspect was tasered after being combative and taken into custody.

The West Virginia State Police is handling the local investigation.
