More Than 675,000 in West Virginia Have at Least One COVID-19 Shot

The number of West Virginians who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine has now topped 675,000.

According to the Department of Health and Human Resources, there are now 675,344 who now have received their first dose of vaccine. There are 480,324 who are now fully vaccinated.

Ohio County is among the best in the state in getting shots in arms. The county is tied for fourth with Monongalia County in the number of doses per 1,000 residents at 429. Tucker County leads the state with 489 doses per 1,000 residents.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported 18 new positive COVID-19 cases in Ohio County in its Thursday night update, bringing that county’s totals to 4,197 positive cases and 83 related deaths since the pandemic began. The department also announced that there will be no vaccination clinic at The Highlands on Saturday, those who had a second dose scheduled and did not get a notice from the department to reschedule can walk in Friday or Monday to get their shot.

The Marshall County Health Department reported four new confirmed positive cases in its Thursday night update. The department is sending people to the DHHR website for its latest numbers, which on Thursday were 2,401 confirmed cases, 853 probable cases and 77 related deaths.

Ohio County remained the only one of the Northern Panhandle’s four Thursday in green, the safest category on the DHHR COVID-19 alert map. The other three — Hancock, Brooke and Marshall — were yellow, the map’s second-safest category.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 15.87 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.50. Brooke County had an infection rate of 19.53 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.93.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 16.90 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.30. Marshall County had an infection rate of 17.31 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.35.
