Benwood Pool Offering Free Swim Monday

BENWOOD — The City of Benwood is encouraging anyone to come celebrate the start of summer at the city’s pool Monday — on the city’s dime.

The pool will be open at no cost to anyone interested in getting their feet wet, not just Benwood residents, on Memorial Day.

In addition, hot dogs, soda, and chips will be available free of charge as well. Councilman Bob Rose said the city was footing the bill for the free day at the pool.

“It’s a gesture for us to kick the summer off,” Rose said.

Benwood’s pool complex, originally built in 1976, was recently renovated in 2018, being closed through the following year to repair, replace and rehabilitate the pool and its adjacent buildings inside and out at a cost of $1.7 million, with another $400,000 in grant funding.

It reopened in 2020. Improvements include a completely redone interior of the pool and pool house, handicap accessible ramp and rail, and splash pad.
