Ohio County Grand Jury Returns Several Indictments

A Wheeling man was indicted Monday by an Ohio County grand jury on multiple counts of sexual assault, sexual abuse and incest, the county prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.

Zebadiah A. Groves, 37, was one of 19 people indicted by the grand jury, the prosecutor’s office said. Groves was indicted on one count of first-degree sexual assault, one count of first-degree sexual abuse, five counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian and five counts of incest.

In September, Wheeling police spoke with a young woman who said an explicit video of her had been posted to an adult website.

The woman told police that a friend alerted her that the video had been posted, which depicts her engaging in sexual acts when she was 17 years old, with whow she initially told police was her boyfriend.

Police were able to locate the video and suspected that the man seen in the footage was Groves.

The following week, the woman again came to police to report that Groves had violated a domestic violence petition she had against him. At that time, she disclosed to police that the man allegedly seen in the video was, in fact, Groves. The woman told police that Groves sexually abused her from between February 2018 to May 2020.
