WHEELING — Now in its third season at Oglebay Park, Route 88 BBQ & Brew recently celebrated its grand reopening, just in time for outdoor dining.

Located at the Par 3 driving range off WV 88, Route 88 BBQ & Brew is serving up house-smoked BBQ from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m, Wednesday through Sunday. Featuring a new menu and a charming outdoor dining area, the casual dining spot features smoked beef brisket, baby back ribs, pork and turkey, along with house-made side dishes and an eclectic selection of craft brews.

“We’re particularly excited about our new custom-built smoker,” said Director of Food & Beverage Kevin Blake. “We partnered with Johnson’s Custom Smokers of Ennis, Texas, to develop a 15-foot reverse-flow smoker with a 75-square-foot cook surface that will enable our team to smoke even more delicious BBQ.”

The new smoker was delivered just this this week to the restaurant.

The staff arrives in the very early morning hours to fire up the smoker, so they can get started on a variety of smoked menu items, according to Oglebay Park Executive Chef Thomas Raymond. He said they will include a “staple feature” for each day of operation.

“We’re really excited,” said Raymond, who said the larger smoker will allow the eatery to keep up with the increased demand for smoked products.

“This one (smoker) allows us to double our capacity,” Raymond explained.

od Haley, executive vice-president of Wheeling Park Commission, said Route 88 BBQ & Brew has been a great addition to the Par 3 Driving Range section of the park.

“It’s well attended by locals as well as cottage guests and hotel guests,” Haley commented.

Seating is available inside the Par 3 clubhouse and outside on a pet-friendly paved patio featuring orange picnic tables with shady umbrellas, patio chairs and charming bistro lights.

Back by popular demand, guests can also enjoy free live music every Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. on the outdoor patio of Route 88 BBQ & Brew. For more information about Route 88 BBQ & Brew, visit www.oglebay.com/route-88-bbq-brew. Carryout orders may be placed by calling 304-243-4077.
