McMechen To See Citywide Water Outage Wednesday

A city-wide water outage in McMechen will take place Wednesday, and possibly into Thursday, as the city nears the end of its water line replacement project.

All water distribution throughout the city will be halted Wednesday morning and resume in the evening. Times for each were not provided to the city. If the work is not completed over the course of the day Wednesday, the same will occur Thursday. During this time, the city building and the McMechen city pool will be closed. When water service resumes, there will be a boil order in effect until further notice.

This comes as the water department is putting the finishing touches on the water project, with crews discontinuing the water line along Caldwell Street, which city clerk Missy Thornton said is one of the last major parts of the project. The project began in July of 2020.

This is the second time the city has had to halt water service since the project began, with the last occurring several months ago, Thornton said.
