WHEELING — The Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing the sizzle back to summer this month when its popular steak fry returns for the first time in 12 years.

The event is limited to Chamber members and their guests, and it offers a great opportunity to network and enjoy fellowship outdoors before summer begins to wind down. The steak fry will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Sonneborn Shelter at Wheeling Park.

“We’ve gotten a lot of outreach from our membership that has been asking us to bring this back,” Chamber President Erikka Storch said. “They feel like this was the premiere networking opportunity for the business community to get together, socialize, collaborate, exchange ideas and form relationships outside of the 9-to-5 workday.”

Tickets include a 12-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, salad, roll and dessert. A chicken option will also be available. There will be water, pop, beer, wine and other legal beverages available, as well.

Prize raffles, tip boards, a 50/50 drawing and other fund-raising games will take place, and live musical entertainment will be provided by area band MSM, performing a variety of popular tunes.

Sponsorships are available, and businesses are encouraged to support the Chamber and its many initiatives, including this popular “Summer Sizzler” event. Different sponsorship levels offer a variety of promotional opportunities.

Anyone interested in joining the Chamber can contact membership outreach coordinator Mary Fahey at 304-670-0973 for more information. New members and their guests are welcome and encouraged to attend the steak fry, and Chamber of Commerce membership offers an array of benefits.

Member benefits include opportunities to grow and strengthen business local business relationships, government advocacy on business-related issues, professional development opportunities, community involvement and awareness, publicity and name recognition, and other networking activities that show members’ commitment to the future of Wheeling and Ohio County.

New chamber member benefits are being offered this year, as well, including health care options, a retirement plan program, a safety discount program and assistance with customized video advertising.

Registration to the upcoming steak fry will be limited, and attendees must be registered by Aug. 23. Chamber officials noted that the steak fry is among the first of the events where social gatherings have been permitted as COVID-related social distancing regulations prohibited events such as these for more than a year. It’s a great opportunity to come out and have fun with others in the local business community, and to welcome back this annual tradition that had been put on the back burner for more than a decade.

“We expect to pick up right where we left off,” Storch said. “This event is sure to not disappoint.”
