Scouts Honor 9/11 With Edgwood Service

The Boy Scouts of America commemorated the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America with a service in Edgwood this year, followed by a carnival and recruitment event in Edgwood’s park.

Events were being organized by Scouts BSA Troop 79 — an all-girl troop based at Simpson United Methodist Church in Moundsville — and Troop 82 — an all-boy troop that meets at the Glen Dale Methodist Church. Scouts BSA was previously known as Boy Scouts of America.

A 9/11 memorial event started off the day at 9 a.m. at the Wheeling Fire Department’s Edgewood fire station near the park. Events were held for children throughout the day in the park and there were a variety of craft and food vendors. Pictured is Grayson Koonce, a scout with Troop 109 of Bridgeport, standing with patriotic woodwork made by his family’s business, Koonce Woodworking.
