Cabela’s Hiring Event Continues Today at The Highlands

When Isaac Knight, group sales manager at Cabela’s at The Highlands, walked into work Wednesday, he saw a room full of people looking for a position at the store for the upcoming holiday season.

That made Knight pretty happy, because Cabela’s is hiring and is asking those interested to come on into the store today.

Cabela’s will hold a hiring event from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today for the second day. The store invited those interested in a job Wednesday as well. The event at The Highlands store is part of a nationwide hiring event for Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shops throughout the country.

Company-wide, the stores are looking for 7,000 employees for the holiday months. At the Highlands Cabela’s, they’re looking to fill around 60 positions.

Stocking the roster for the holiday rush is an important task, Knight said. The volume of sales from November to Christmas skyrockets.

“I’ll do as much business in the fourth quarter as I’ve done in the previous three combined,” Knight said. “It’s big, huge.”

Those interested must be 18 years old. Previous retail experience is a plus, but not a must. A background check and drug test will be required to take a job there.

There is lots of potential for those who succeed in those seasonal positions, Knight said. Those jobs can lead to much, much more.

“A lot of it would be part-time and seasonal, but a lot of those seasonal employees make a way to a full-time position,” he said. “There certainly will be plenty of opportunities for the right candidates.”

Knight touted the benefits available for working at Cabela’s — up to a 45% discount on merchandise, competitive wages, holiday and vacation pay, and health, dental and life insurance programs for eligible team members among them. It’s also an opportunity for those interested in the outdoors to help other outdoor aficionados find what they’re looking for in the way of gifts or the right equipment for a fishing or hunting trip.

Knight said Wednesday and today are very important for the Highlands store, an extremely popular spot for outdoors items and one that gets very busy during the holidays.

“It’s incredibly crucial to us and the retail business is incredibly competitive,” he said. “The upside is that the Christmas season, from Black Friday to Christmas, can be a tumultuous time. But if you can make it through that, the rest of the year is fun.”
