COVID-19 Cases Continue Climb In Ohio County

COVID-19 cases, both overall and among children, were up again this past week compared to the week before, according to the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department.

The WOCHD announced 170 new COVID-19 cases between Dec.12-19. The week prior, the department announced 151 new cases. Among children under age 18, there were 45 new cases last week, compared to 42 new cases the week prior.

The department also announced three new COVID-related deaths from last week.

The Marshall County Health Department announced 49 new confirmed positive cases, 34 probable cases and two deaths between Dec. 11-17.

According to the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 dashboard, Ohio County has reported 5,375 confirmed positive cases, 1,760 probable cases and 125 related deaths since the pandemic began. Marshall County has reported 4,326 confirmed positive cases, 1,724 probable cases and 131 related deaths.

All four Northern Panhandle counties were orange, the second-highest risk on the latest DHHR COVID-19 alert map. Hancock County had an infection rate of 42.64 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 6.41. Brooke County had an infection rate of 35.81 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 6.17.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 48.30 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 7.75. Marshall County had an infection rate of 32.29 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 6.98.
