The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office emerged victorious in the Salvation Army’s “Battle of the Badges,” and the Salvation Army’s coffers are fuller for it.

The sheriff’s office, the Wheeling Police Department and Wheeling Fire Department all squared off this past Saturday to see who could raise the most money for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle drive.

The Wheeling Police Department raised $1,424.93 at Kroger on Mount deChantal Road, the Wheeling Fire Department raised $1,016.36 at Riesbeck’s in Elm Grove and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department raised $1,189.38 at the Walmart Food door and $1,713.91 at Cabela’s.

The sheriff’s department earned the winners’ trophy at Cabela’s, and will keep the award for one year before next year’s battle. The Salvation Army plans to make this a yearly event. The trophy will be presented in March during the Salvation Army’s annual dinner.
