Bronze Plaques Stolen From Wheeling Business Fronts
Four bronze plaques were stolen off of businesses on the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Chapline St most likely Thursday night, according to Wheeling Police Department spokesperson Philip Stahl.
Business owners noticed the missing plaques Friday morning.
The police department is investigating the thefts and reviewing surveillance footage, Stahl said.
Marshall St. Lane Closure Extended Until Thursday
The lane closure on Marshall County Route 2/7 (Marshall Street) near the intersection of Eighth Street in McMechen is being extended, until Thursday, Nov. 21, for new gas line installation.
Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect slight delays.
Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.

Hundred To Affect Traffic
A portion of W.Va. 7 in Hundred beginning at the intersection with U.S. 250 to Wetzel County Route 24 (Fairview Ridge Road) in Wileyille will be restricted to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday through Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, for tree removal along the roadway.
Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect delays. Emergency vehicles will be accommodated.
Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the project schedule.
Maintenance Scheduled
For Low Gap Road
A portion of Wetzel County Route 8 (Low Gap Road) will be restricted to one lane at milepost 5.24, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Monday through Monday, Dec. 2, for road maintenance.
Flaggers will be maintaining traffic during working hours, and traffic signals will be used during non-working hours.
Emergency vehicles, school buses. and local traffic will be accommodated. Motorists are advised to slow down and expect delays.
For alternate routes, drivers can use W.Va. 7 south of the construction area and U.S. 250 north of the construction area.

Ohio County Resident
Sentenced For Drug Charge
Geon Thamar Newby, Jr., 37, of Wheeling, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for the distribution of cocaine base.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Newby, also known as “G” and “Gee,” sold cocaine base in Ohio County. The United States argued that Newby was responsible for distributing up to 840 grams of cocaine base. Newby has prior convictions for drug possession in Ohio.
Newby will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
Jefferson County Veterans
Association To Hold Service
SMITHFIELD — The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its Veterans Day service at 3 p.m. Monday at Friendship Park’s Memorial Wall in Smithfield.
Commander John Kafanna will serve as master of ceremonies. The guest speaker will be Julie Stenger, community editor for the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.
The public is invited to attend. Those attending are asked to bring a chair should services be held outdoors. Doughnuts and coffee will be served in the 4-H building following the service.
