Holiday Sale at Steenrod Elementary Is Saturday

Steenrod Elementary School will host its first “Second Chance Holiday Sale” Saturday with a goal of helping their partner in education help others this holiday season.

The event will feature gently used decor and toys, as well as goods from crafters and vendors who have purchased a table for sales set up during the sale.

Speech teacher Jennifer Nick has organized the inaugural holiday event for the school, which benefits the First Baptist Church Christmas Kids Outreach.

“I thought it would be nice to have a program to assist a ‘partner in education,'” she explained. “They adopt some of our needier families each holiday season, and it is nice to raise money toward that purpose.”

Nick added she also thought it would be wonderful to sell secondhand toys and Christmas decors to sell to raise the needed money.

“We asked families from the school to donate, and some staff members did as well,” she said. “There are some really neat things — from vintage Christmas decor lights to older toy items, to brand new things never opened.”

The school also offered the public a chance to purchase a table during the sale upon which to sell their own items at a cost of $10. A lot of the people purchasing are crafters, or those with gently used items to sell.

More than 10 tables have been rented, generating over $100 for the event, according to Nick.

The table money, along with what is generated through sales, all will be donated to the church’s outreach program.

“This is the first year,” Nick said. “I would be tickled if we hit the $500 mark. I’m just excited to help our community, and for us to work together. If it works out well, we could do this next year and it will become a yearly thing,” she said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
