Waterline Breaks Force Two Schools in Marshall County Forced To Close
In-person instruction was canceled at both Cameron High School and the Gateway Achievement Center in Marshall County Tuesday due to two separate waterline breaks.
Students at both schools were directed to partake in remote learning throughout the day.
Shelby Haines, superintendent of Marshall County Schools, said she was first alerted to the break at Cameron High School at 12:45 a.m. Notification of the GAC break came later in the morning.
Marshall County Director of Emergency Service Tom Hart reported PSD 4, which oversees water lines in the Cameron area, had discovered some issues there on Tuesday.
“PSD 4 has located a couple of major leaks, one is in Blake Ridge Area, and the other is on Fletcher Hill near Cameron,” he said. “They are working to get those two leaks addressed, and they are in the process of trying to refill those tanks.”
PSD 4 noted on the City of Cameron Facebook page that there was a waterline break in Green Valley on Monday “and we have had to shut down the water to be fixed.”
“We’re currently working on it, and hoping that to have this taken care of shortly,” the post stated.
“We will keep you posted. There will be a boil order in effect for Green Valley, once the water is restored.”
Messages left with PSD 4 were not immediately returned on Tuesday.
Calls to the Moundsville Water Department were referred to the treatment plant. A worker there said three waterline breaks were fixed in the city on Tuesday morning, but he didn’t know which ones or in what areas they were located.
