Champions Of Children To Be Honored Friday

A trio of people who have spent years working to make the lives of Ohio Valley children better will be honored by the Ohio County Partners In Prevention.

The organization will present the annual Deborah Doleski Allen Champion of Children Awards during a 2 p.m. Friday ceremony at the Stifel Fine Arts Center.

As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, the Champion of Children Awards honor individuals who demonstrate the pillars of prevention. Nominated by members of the community and carefully selected by the Ohio County Partners in Prevention Team, this award is given to individuals who exemplify extraordinary dedication to the well-being of children and families in Ohio County.

This year’s winners are Wheeling Park High School teacher Caroline Dillon, Wheeling Country Day School Head of School Jessica Broski Birch and Jermaine Lucious.

Dillon has spent nearly 30 years creating inclusive, hands-on learning environments as the leader of the radio/TV broadcasting program at Wheeling Park High School. She goes above and beyond to support students of all abilities, integrating special education learners into her classes and mentoring them with compassion and creativity.

Broski-Birch is a passionate and innovative educator whose leadership has left a lasting impact on schools throughout Wheeling. From Bridge Street Middle to Wheeling Country Day School, she has cultivated supportive, inclusive spaces where every child is valued and empowered to thrive. Her commitment to student well-being, family engagement, and community collaboration exemplifies the spirit of this award.

For nearly two decades, Jermaine Lucious has dedicated his life to supporting youth through mentorship, advocacy, and leadership. Whether developing programs, guiding families, or creating joyful community events, Jermaine meets every child with care, consistency, and hope. His work continues to inspire change and foster brighter futures for young people in our region.

The ceremony will also include a proclamation of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and guest speaker, Amanda Spencer from the Department of Human Services. The community is invited to attend this free and public event at Stifel Fine Arts Center, 1330 National Road, Wheeling, WV.
