March 19: Cancellations, Postponements Over Coronavirus Concerns

Because of concern for potential COVID-19 exposure, the following events have been canceled or postponed:

Community Events

∫ The St. Clairsville Chamber of Commerce March luncheon slated for March 19 at Belmont Hills Country Club has been canceled.

∫ ArtsLink’s Ball in the House concert, set for March 19 at Tyler Consolidated High School, is canceled.

∫ Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours, scheduled for March 19, is canceled.

∫ Crittenton Services’ Paint the Town, set for March 21, is postponed until further notice.

∫ The Festival of Nations, set for March 21 in Weirton, is canceled.

∫ The Celebrate National Quilting Day slated to be held at the Pro Bull Riders event March 21 at WesBanco Arena has been canceled.

∫ Montani Semper Liberi: Music & Art, slated for March 20-22 at Oak Glen High School, has been canceled.

∫ The Relay for Life event, Baking For Hope at the Limestone Community Building on March 22 has been postponed. The American Cancer Society has asked that all relay events be postponed until at least March 31. This event will be rescheduled at a later date.

∫ The Belmont County Tourism Council has canceled the March 23 GAP Grant check presentation.

∫ The March 23 monthly meeting of the Ohio Valley Civil War Roundtable has been canceled.

∫ The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register’s candidate meet and greet event for all West Virginia candidates on the ballot in the May primary, set for March 24, has been canceled.

∫ The South Wheeling Preservation Alliance conversation with candidates event on March 24 has been canceled.

∫ St. Clairsville AARP 2994 meeting, set for March 26 at the Rec Center, is canceled.

∫ The Thursday Music Club’s Young Musician Auditions, set for March 27-28, and the club’s spring concert, set for April 2, are canceled.

∫ All Country Friends Foundation Inc. events have been canceled for the remainder of March.

∫ The Strand Theatre Preservation Society in Moundsville has canceled all remaining spring classes and postpone events through March 31.

∫ Oglebay Institute has decided to cancel all public events, performances, classes and workshops through April 4 at all its facilities – The Stifel Fine Arts Center, School of Dance, Towngate Theatre, Schrader Environmental Education Center, Mansion Museum and Glass Museum. At this time, spring classes and all other programs are set to resume the week of April 5.

∫ Oglebay Institute’s annual Antiques Show and Sale, set to begin April; 4, is canceled.

∫ The spring bingo planned for New Athens fire hall on April 5 has been postponed until further notice.

∫ The Steubenville Art Association Show, slated for April 18-May 2, is canceled.

∫ The Seeing Hand Association in Wheeling is stopping its exercise, share group and bowling until May 1.

∫ The Older Adult Expo scheduled for May 5 at the Ohio Valley Mall has been canceled until next year.

Libraries

∫ The Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library is closed.

∫ The Ohio County Public Library is closed until further notice.

∫ The Ohio County Public Library’s Lunch With Books programs on March 24 is canceled.

∫ CHANGE Inc.’s home buyer education class, scheduled for March 27 at Mary H. Weir Public Library, is canceled.

∫ Mary H. Weir Public Library, 3442 Main St., Weirton, is closed until the end of March.

∫ Brooke County Public Library facilities in Wellsburg and Follansbee are open, but meeting room usage and library programming is suspended until at least March 31.

∫ The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County remains closed until further notice.

Hospitals

∫ Visitors to Wheeling Hospital and WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital are restricted because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

∫ Wheeling Hospital has temporarily suspended seminars, symposiums, support groups, community education and outreach events at its facilities.

∫ Wheeling Hospital is not accepting flower deliveries at this time. Also the hospital gift shop is closed.

∫ An Opioid Crisis seminar, set for March 19 at Wheeling Hospital, is canceled.

∫ A workplace violence seminar, set for March 20 at Wheeling Hospital, is canceled.

Religious

∫ All visits to the Congregation of St. Joseph’s center in Wheeling are restricted because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Anyone who has an urgent or specific need to visit is asked to call the center at 304-232-8160 before doing so.

∫ The Invisible Patient sessions at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St Clairsville, and at First Christian Church, Wheeling, are canceled.

∫ Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4136 Jacob St., Wheeling, has canceled the remainder of Lentent fish fries. They are still accepting Easter orders for pierogi and cabbage rolls until March 27. Last pick-up date is still April 3. Place orders by calling 304-232-1777 and leave a message if no answer.

∫ The Vineyard Church has canceled services at its physical locations and at the Capitol Theatre.

∫ Mount Olivet United Methodist Church’s baked steak dinner for April is canceled. The next dinner is scheduled for June 3.

∫ Fish frys at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church have been canceled through the remainder of the Lenten season.

Universities and Colleges

∫ Ohio University Eastern’s Celebrate Women event, set for March 19, is postponed and will be rescheduled.

∫ Wheeling University has moved all instruction to online.

∫ Bethany College will extend its spring break through March 20 and resume March 23 with online classes until further notice.

∫ West Liberty University is extending spring break for in-person classes through March 20. All online classes will proceed as originally scheduled.

∫ West Virginia University canceled classes for the week of March 23 and will move all classes to online or alternate learning options on March 30.

∫ Ohio University Eastern has extended spring break until March 23.

∫ Franciscan University of Steubenville will convert classes to an online format no later than March 23.

∫ Family Roots Farm in Wellsburg has canceled Maple Sugar Day on March 21 and all farm events through March 31.

∫ Bethany College’s Ann Trombadore Women and Leadership Weekend, set for March 20-21, is canceled.

∫ West Liberty University’s Hughes Lecture, slated for March 26, is canceled.

∫ An Easter egg hunt, set for March 28 at Bethany College, is canceled.

Government

∫ The Island Crime Watch and Island Community Association meetings set for March 31 has been canceled.

∫ All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service are now closed.

∫ The Town of Triadelphia water and sewer customers are asked to use the drop box on the side of the town building or call their payments in by phone. The town is waiving the service fee for paying by credit or debit card until further notice. Any questions, call 304-547-5000.

∫ The Marshall County Health Department has changed the availability of several services. The immunization clinic, influenza vaccine, PPD skin testing, and STD testing will continue by appointment only. Family planning clinics and food handlers classes have been suspended in person. Food handlers classes will continue online at statefoodsafety.com. Birth control will continue to be available upon request.

∫ The Marshall County Commission discourages in-person visits to the courthouse and other county buildings unless absolutely necessary.
