Power Outage Reported in Elm Grove Area

UPDATE — AEP officials said about 2,700 customers remain without power from Washington Avenue east to Elm Grove. About 1,000 customers have had power restored. Power is expected to be restored for 100 percent of the outage area by 6 p.m.

AEP spokesman Joelle Connors said a tree fell on a power line causing the outage early this morning.

WHEELING — An estimated 3,700 customers are without power this morning in the Elm Grove area along National Road, Kruger Street and throughout the neighborhood. Power lines were compromised near Elm Grove Elementary School. City firefighters reported finding a pole sheared in half with wires dangling from the pole just after 7:30 a.m. today.

As a result, traffic lights are not operating along National Road and motorists are urged to use caution in those areas. Power is expected to be off for several hours as repairs are made.
