MOUNDSVILLE — The Marshall County Fair will begin its 71st year today, bringing back decades of tradition to the fairgrounds.

The 2019 fair week is today through Saturday and features big name concerts, a carnival and other attractions.

“The summer tradition continues with the 71st annual fair and we are looking forward to this year’s schedule of events,” said Beth Bertram, president of the Marshall County Fair’s Board of Directors.

Four large barns become the temporary home for hundreds of animals that are brought onto the grounds each year for a variety of contests. The fair will offer breeding and market shows for beef, goats, hogs, rabbits and sheep, as well as dairy goat and dairy cattle shows, horse shows and more.

Livestock shows are not only for 4-H & FFA project members, but feature open class competitions, as well.

“The young ladies and gentlemen that are the proud owners of these animals have worked hard and we are ready to see the proof of that hard work throughout the competitions,” Bertram said.

The 4-H and FFA members also display completed projects in sewing, cooking, woodworking, gardening, photography and many others in the 4-H & FFA Exhibit Hall. The Chesapeake Energy Events Building contains open class exhibits in canned goods, farm produce, needlework and many others, as well as commercial exhibits from the local area.

The Grandstands feature a wide range of track events throughout the week including the Rafter Z Rodeo on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m., truck pulls at 7 p.m. Thursday, and truck and tractor pulls Friday at 7 p.m. The Festival Stage will feature the Queen’s Pageant at 6:30 p.m. Monday, and the fair week will wrap up Saturday with a live performance from country music star Phil Vassar, presented by Bordas & Bordas at 9 p.m.

A carnival, food vendors and a wide variety of on-grounds entertainment complete the fair’s schedule of events.

“There is something for everyone at the Marshall County Fair, so mark your calendars and join us for another great year,” Bertram said.

The Marshall County Fair has been held at its current location on Eastern Twelfth Street in Moundsville since 1948. For tickets and more information, visit marshallcountyfair.net or email info@marshallcountyfair.net.
