Hampton Inn Wheeling Earns 2018 Hilton Top Performer Award

Hampton Inn Wheeling has won its first-ever Hilton Top Performer Award for its outstanding achievement in guest experience and business performance in 2018. Owner Bob Hitchman, pictured, was informed Monday about the accomplishment.

WHEELING — Only three Hampton by Hilton hotels were named this year as a Hilton Top Performer, and one of them is located right here in Wheeling.

Hampton Inn Wheeling has won its first-ever Hilton Top Performer Award for its outstanding achievement in guest experience and business performance in 2018. Hampton Inn Wheeling was selected for the Hilton Top Performer Award based on metrics such as performance, guest experience, quality assurance and customer service.

Bob and Stephanie Hitchman own and operate the Hampton Inn Wheeling, located in the Woodsdale business district. Bob Hitchman was congratulated on the achievement by Shruti Gandhi Buckley, Global Brand Leader for Hampton by Hilton, who was speaking by video conference Monday.

“We are absolutely excited to share that this hotel today is being awarded just one of three Top Performer Awards in the Americas — which is pretty remarkable considering we have nearly 2,300 hotels that are open and operated in the Americas,” Gandhi Buckley said.

She went on to explain the Hilton Top Performer Award is given to only the top one-half of one percent of the brand worldwide.

“So that is a pretty remarkable accomplishment … under your leadership, your ownership,” Gandhi Buckley said, while speaking to Hitchman. “You set the bar high for all the 2,500 Hamptons that are open and operated worldwide — so thank you.”

Hitchman said they are truly honored to be recognized with the outstanding achievement award by the hotel brand.

“Hilton taught me long ago — that if you as an owner are committed to service, your bottom line will be healthier,” he said. “We are doing unbelievably well. The energy and the atmosphere here couldn’t be better. It is the highlight of my career. … In my sixty years of hotel business, I’ve never had anything more fulfilling. I love it. I love to come to work to see our hospitality professionals win. It is a fabulous, fabulous experience.”

This latest recognition is one of several hospitality industry honors Hampton Inn Wheeling has received over the last few years. The Hitchman’s will officially accept the award at a special awards conference later this week in Orlando, Fla.

Hampton Inn Wheeling is the only Hampton property to have won six consecutive Connie Awards and a top performer award in the 100 years of Hilton history. The Connie Award places the hotel as one of the top Hampton properties in service and growing customer loyalty based on guest surveys and quality assurance inspections.

Built in 1989, Hampton Inn Wheeling is a member of the Hilton family of 5,700 hotels in 113 counties. The local hotel boasts Wheeling’s only Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Center, a brand new Outdoor SportsPlex, and an Outdoor Teak Garden including a fountain, fire pit, and outdoor Wolfe kitchen.
