Public Market Grand Opening, Harvest Festival Set for Saturday
WHEELING — Grow Ohio Valley will celebrate the opening of its Public Market on Saturday with an autumnal event featuring local food, music and family activities.
The Public Market Grand Opening and Grow OV Harvest Festival is set for noon to 7 p.m. on the corner of 14th and Main streets outside the market.
The market, a nonprofit local and natural foods store in the Intermodal Center, 1401 Main St., will open its doors at 8 a.m. Saturday. Several local vendors will be present next to their products to meet people and share information on their goods.
The Public Market will host live music indoors from 10:30 a.m. to noon featuring Bob Gaudio, Jeff Sperl and Laura Cramblet with Brooke Deal.
The free outdoor festival, starting at noon, will include a local pig roast with seasonal sides and locally sourced vegetarian options catered by local chefs. Food will be available for purchase until supplies run out.
Live music will continue from 1-7 p.m. on 14th Street featuring the Wheeling Symphony Brass Quintet, Ezra Hamilton, Adrian Niles and Matt Heusel, Ananga Martin, the Gypsy Cowboys and Mister James.
Meanwhile, family games and activities will take place at Heritage Port during the event and will include a pop-up pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating, face painting, kettle corn and fall games and contests.
Laura Hitchman of OV Power Yoga will host a free public yoga class open to all levels from noon to 12:45 p.m. on 14th Street outside the market.
“This is the culmination of a years-long project to create a space for Wheeling residents to meet, connect and learn about the great local food products produced here,” said Dean Sparks, Public Market general manager. “We are pleased to open our doors and let the community experience the sights, sounds and flavors of the freshest ingredients you can buy.”
The Public Market will be open year-round from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature locally grown fruits and vegetables, eggs and meats from over 40 area vendors, natural and health food items and a deli offering seasonal options for breakfast, lunch and “grab and go” items, according to Grow OV.
Memberships for the market, which offer perks and support the store, are still available. For more information, visit ThePublicMarket.org or call 304-233-4769.
