Nine COVID-19 cases linked to Wheeling church

First Baptist Church at 1470 National Road was identified Wednesday as an outbreak site after at least four members contracted COVID-19 earlier this month.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department received confirmation Friday of four new COVID-19 cases, and is now tracking nine total COVID-19 cases stemming from parishioners at First Baptist Church on National Road in Wheeling, health department administrator Howard Gamble said.

Gamble, in announcing the new cases, said church leaders at First Baptist are working with the health department to ensure all people exposed have been contacted and tested.

The new cases bring the county’s total since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to 67 including one death. Case surveillance, contact tracing and monitoring continues for many of the reported cases. Of the 67 cases, 48 have recovered and 19 are active.

Ohio County and Ohio Valley residents are advised to limit public contact, implement social distancing, work at home where possible, wear a face covering when out in public or at work, wash your hands frequently and contact your personal physician if you become ill with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
