WHEELING — New COVID-19 cases in Ohio County the last week ticked back upward compared to the previous seven-day span, both in total amount and in cases among children.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department on Sunday announced 148 new COVID-19 cases in the county between Oct. 3 and Sunday.

That includes 34 cases among those under the age of 18. In the previous seven-day span, there were 111 new cases and 20 among those under age 18.

The department also announced three new COVID-related deaths in the county in the last seven days.

In Marshall County, the county health department reported 85 confirmed positive cases, 68 probable cases and four deaths between Oct. 48.

According to the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 dashboard, Ohio County has seen 4,334 confirmed positive cases, 1,520 probable cases and 100 deaths since the pandemic began. Marshall County has seen 3,600 confirmed positive cases, 1,501 probable cases and 104 deaths since the pandemic began.

All four counties in the Northern Panhandle — Hancock, Brooke, Ohio and Marshall — were orange on the latest DHHR COVID-19 alert map.

That category is one rung higher on the map’s risk levels than red, the highest-risk category.
