No Confidence Vote Against WVU President, Provost Fails

Gorden Gee

The West Virginia University Faculty Senate overwhelmingly shunned a vote of no confidence Monday against President E. Gordon Gee and Provost Maryanne Reed.

Only 20 faculty senate members voted in support of the no confidence vote, with 103 voting against it.

The resolution for that no confidence vote came to light last week when the agenda for Monday’s faculty senate meeting was released. The original resolution raised concerns about Gee and Reed’s leadership, including the lack of a COVID-19 vaccine mandate, the administration’s hiring practices for senior staff, their academic reforms, a lack of consideration of academic qualifications for top-tier positions and other concerns.

During Monday’s meeting, the resolution was revised to remove the lack of a vaccine mandate from among the list of concerns.
