WHEELING — The Wheeling Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in two fatalities early Thursday evening in downtown.

Wheeling Police and Fire personnel were called to the intersection of 16th and Main streets around 6:20 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole on the Main Street Bridge. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A portion of the wall along the Main Street Bridge over Wheeling Creek was destroyed as a result of the crash, which also caused the utility pole to topple.

The victims names are not being released at this time as police continue their investigation.
