VANDALIA STEPHENSON

Vandalia “Van” L. Stephenson, 89, of Moundsville, WV, wife of the late Thomas B. Stephenson, went to be with her Savior on Friday, October 14, 2016.

Van was born May 18, 1927, in Lawrence County, OH, the second of three daughters born to the late Walter and Edith Faverty. She graduated from South Point Delta High School in 1945 and continued her education at St. Mary’s School of Nursing as a member of the United States Nurse Corps, graduating in 1948.

She worked for several years as a registered nurse and then as a homemaker and mother.  Van was a Christian and an active member of Moundsville Baptist Church, serving in many roles over the years, most recently as a member of the flower committee.  She loved traveling with her husband, eating out with friends and family, shopping, baking, and crafting. Sending cards and notes was just one of the many ways that Van showed her thoughtfulness.     Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Stephenson, her parents, Walter and Edith Faverty, and her sisters, Florence Catherine Faverty and Wanda Jean Christian.

Mrs. Stephenson is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Peter) Sutton of Charleston, WV, her sons, Michael (Julie) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Paul (Stephanie) of Hanahan, SC, her grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Cantrell and Anna (Joshua) Lucas of Charleston, WV, Nikki (Steven) Driggers of Hanahan, SC, and William Stephenson of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her great-granddaughters, Elliott and Sailor Driggers of Hanahan, SC and Sadie Cantrell of Charleston, WV and a nephew, William Christian of South Point, OH and niece, Barbara Beam of Ashland, KY.

The funeral will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home at 802 Solida Rd., South Point, OH. With Rev. J. Thomas Steele officiating.  Burial will follow at Langdon Cemetery, Chesapeake, OH.

The family will receive friends before the funeral from 10-11 a.m. on Friday.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moundsville Baptist Church flower fund, 4th St. and Annandale Ave., Moundsville, WV 26041.       Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
