JOAN NUGENT

Joan S. Nugent, 89, Wheeling, WV died November 16, 2019 at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born August 5, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN, the youngest child of Arthur V. and Marguerite Wark Storm. She was educated at the University of Minnesota and graduated from West Liberty State College with a degree in art.

For many years, she owned and operated Art, Etc., a custom framing and art supply shop in Wheeling.

Joan loved music and sang in several church choirs, the Camerata Choir, and was a founding member of the Ohio Valley Chorale. She played the recorder in the St. John’s Pipers, a group founded by her husband.

She was a talented artist and woodcarver and the creator of beautiful works of art and stained glass. She was a member of the Oglebay Woodcarvers Guild, former member of the Ohio County Medical Society Auxiliary and an active member of her church, (St. John’s) Centre Wheeling Fellowship. She was an animal lover, an avid gardener and a skilled horsewoman. She loved to travel and enjoyed nature and the outdoors.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Milton E. Nugent Jr.; her oldest son, David James Nugent; sons-in-law, Richard G. Schaff and John P. Stimmel; and her siblings, Marguerite “Peggy” Berry and Arthur V. “Art” Storm Jr.

She is survived by her children, Jo Lynne Nugent Stimmel, Wheeling; Laurie L. Nugent, Fairmont; Jeffrey S. (Lynda) Nugent, Wheeling, and Kristian D. “Kit” Nugent, Wheeling; three stepdaughters, Linda K. Schaff, Turlock, CA; Kathleen D. Hall, Buffalo Grove, IL and Nancy N. (Ken) Beaty, Naples, FL; her sister-in-law, Rita Storm, Tucson, AZ; 10 grand children, eight great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 at (St. John’s) Centre Wheeling Fellowship, 41 22nd St., Wheeling.

A memorial service and celebration of life officiated by Pastor Terry Endsley will follow.
