BARBARA PALMER

Barbara Booth Palmer, 81, passed away on February 11, 2020, in Wheeling, WV.

Barbara grew up in Beaver Falls, PA, the daughter of Paul and Jane (Hirtzel) Booth. She spent the majority of her adult life living and working in her adopted cities of Wheeling, WV, and Chapel Hill, NC.

Barbara loved her family and friends. Two husbands preceded her to Heaven, CPT Frank Dimmitt, whom she lost in Vietnam, and Austin Palmer of Charleston, WV. She proudly talked of her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Randy Worls; her brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Sally Booth; her children, Ann (Bill), Nancy (Wayne), and Paul (Yisvanna); and her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nephews and all her dear friends.

Barbara loved her college alma maters. She received her bachelor degree in Parks and Recreation from Indiana University and her master degree in Recreational Therapy from the University of North Carolina.

Barbara loved her work and volunteer activities. She began her career at Oglebay Park and continued that association for more than 55 years. Her varied career also included working for the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce, teaching Parks and Recreation at WVNCC, serving as the first Manager of the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill, NC, and working for the American Red Cross.

A private family viewing is planned in Wheeling on February 22, 2020.

Barbara will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with husband, CPT Frank Dimmitt, at a date and time to be determined.
