Matthew Thomas Edgel, 33, of Moundsville, WV, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, at his home.

Matt was born December 16, 1986, in Wheeling, WV, the son of Thomas Edgel Jr. and Susan Edgel of Moundsville.

He was a 2005 graduate of John Marshall High School, employed as a heavy equipment operator for Jennmar Services, and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Wheeling. He was also an Eagle Scout, assisted with Boy Scout Troop No. 78, Moundsville; and volunteered at the Washington Lands Volunteer Fire Department.

Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Alice Jack; his paternal grandfather, Thomas Edgel Sr.; and a great-uncle, Otis Hunkler.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandmother, Goldie M. Edgel of Cameron, WV; his daughter, Kaylee S. Edgel of Folsom, WV; two sisters, Briana and Renee Edgel, both of Moundsville; an aunt, Mary (Don) Woods of Tucker, GA; two uncles, Don (Bobbi) Jack of Dale City, VA, and George Jack of Delaware, OH; a great-uncle, Larry Hunkler of Martins Ferry, OH; and several cousins.

Friends will be received from noon-3 and 6-8 pm, Sunday, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2020, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Augustine as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Sherrard, WV.
