Angelo was born March 9, 1923, in Benwood, WV, a son of the late Gaetano and Maria (Peretti) Jafrate. He was a graduate of the former Union High School, Benwood, a member and one of the founding families of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Wheeling; and a retired machinist and foreman for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Benwood Plant. As a result of his bravery in battle, Angelo was awarded many U.S. medals. In addition, he received the elite Croix deGuerre, a French medal that honors feats of courage during wartime.
In addition to his parents, Angelo was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Victoria (Skvarka) Jafrate, in 2008; a son Robert Paul Jafrate; three brothers, Alphonse, Albert and Peter Jafrate; and two sisters, Mildred Martini and Jennie Magestro.
Angelo is survived by his two children, Mark (Kimberly) Jafrate of Melbourne, FL, and Valerie (Gary) Pickett of Wheeling; three grandchildren, Adam (Jennifer) Pickett of Mount Olivet, WV, Corey (Jakki) Pickett of Wheeling, and Ally Jafrate (fiance’, Joe Hudgins) of Dallas, TX; and five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Gavin and Jesse Pickett, and Talen and Evan Hudgins.
At the request of Angelo’s family, and in the interest of the community’s continued well being and safety, there will be no visitation.
