JOANNE MAHLKE

Mary “Joanne” Flynn Mahlke, 89, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the Country Club Retirement Center in Bellaire, OH.

She was born on November 3, 1930, in Marietta, OH, daughter of the late Alma Swaney Flynn and Russell S. Flynn, Sr.

Joanne spent most of her career as a loving Registered Nurse for Dr. Battaglino’s office, where she was passionate about caring for her patients until her retirement. Joanne was also an active member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Some of her favorite past times were traveling, especially to the beach, and gardening, although nothing made her happier than spending time with family and friends at Oglebay Park. An avid sports fan, you could always find Joanne cheering on her beloved West Virginia Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Steelers or Pittsburgh Pirates, rarely missing a game. Joanne was a truly kind soul and while she had many, one of her most endearing qualities is how much she enjoyed helping others without them knowing.

Also known as “Grandma, Mario, or GG”, one of her greatest accomplishments in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly.

In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Harry Mahlke, Sr.; and a brother, Russell S. Flynn, Jr.

Joanne is survived by her three children, Carol L. (Ed) Erb, Susan K. Hamilton and Donald H. (Gina) Mahlke, Jr.; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Kreider, Kristen (Mike) McKenna, Kevin (Emily) Erb, Michael Hamilton, Meridith (Jared) Brankamp and Morghan Mahlke; and seven great -grandchildren, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Brock, Jackson, Molly “Flynn”, Henry and Ben.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1409 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV 26003 with Reverend Deborah Gable officiating.
