Melinda “Mindy” Garrison Smith, 61, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
She was born May 21, 1959, in Wheeling, WV, daughter of Sue Garrison of Wheeling, WV and the late Dr. James W. Garrison.
Mindy was in the 1st graduating class at Wheeling Park High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. She retired as the State Director of March of Dimes in Charleston, WV and worked part-time as a realtor at Kennen & Kennen, where she was rookie of the year in 2020 and as a guest services coordinator at the Vineyard Church. Being a member of the Vineyard Church was a huge part of her life.
She was a party planner for all family events and kept everyone connected. Her grandchildren and neighborhood kids loved being at her house. She had a wonderful smile and an infectious personality that would light up a room.
In addition to her mother, Mindy is survived by her son, James “Jimmy” Wright Smith of Wheeling, WV; daughter, Brenda “BJ” (Tony) Delbert of Wheeling, WV; 2 grandchildren, Gracie & Anthony; sister, Brenda (Randy) Straub of Wheeling, WV; fiance, Mike Gornik of Wheeling, WV; a niece, Melissa (Jim) Adams; a nephew, Taylor Straub; and a great-niece, Libby Adams.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 2-6 PM at Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (#304-242-2311). Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11 AM at the Vineyard Church, 647 Warden Run Road, Wheeling, WV with Pastor Barry Bullman officiating and where the Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
