Carol Jean Baker Headley Knapp, 84, of New Martinsville, WV died Friday, June 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.
Carol was born February 8, 1937, at the Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, WV; daughter of the late Gail and Nellie (Curry) Baker.
She was a RN, ERTNS, CCN, BLS, ACLS, twelve year member of the Board of Directors of West Virginia Affiliate of American Diabetes Association. A diabetes educator and involved in fund raising for diabetes research, treatment and education. Carol loved God, family, USA and her fifty year nursing career. Graduated from OVGH School of Nursing in 1958. Worked forty plus years at Wetzel County Hospital, mostly in the Emergency Room until she retired January 1, 2000. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Reader, WV.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Headley and son, William “B” Headley.
Surviving is her husband, Lyle Knapp; children, Jean Ann (Tom) Gump and Gail “GF” Headley; five grandchildren, J.C. Gump, Belinda (Nick) Henderson, Whitney (Mike) Neff, Karissa Headley and Becca Headley; three great grandchildren, Gunner Stillwagoner, Huckleberry Henderson and Lincoln Neff; step children, Jayne Knapp and James (Tracy) Knapp; step grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Knapp.
Friends received 2-8 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021 at the Williams Funeral Home, 12750 Shortline Hwy, Pine Grove, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Carol’s final resting place will be in the Alf Smith Cemetery near Frew, Tyler County, WV.
A White Rose ceremony will be conducted as part of the funeral service.
