ELLIS PATTERSON

Ellis (Lee) Patterson, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 14, 2021 in Blue Creek, Ohio. Lee was born on October 15, 1938, in Ravenswood, West Virginia to parents Elizabeth Givens Hoffman (100) and Eugene Patterson (deceased). Lee was raised in Wellsburg, West Virginia area by his mother and stepfather Lawrence Hoffman (deceased).

Preceeding him in death, as well as his father and stepfather, were his two brothers: Vernon Patterson (Virginia) of Wellsburg, West Virginia and Richard Patterson ( Jane) of Wauseon, Ohio.

Lee is survived by his wife of 47 years Judy Whitmire Patterson of Blue Creek, Ohio; mother Elizabeth Hoffman of Blue Creek, Ohio; daughter Leanne Patterson Yentzer (Mark) of Blue Creek, Ohio; Son Michael Patterson (Heather) of Rocky Point, North Carolina; son Jay Patterson (Charlotte) of Hampstead, North Carolina; and daughter Pamela Patterson Pever (Larry) of Oak Harbor, Ohio. Lee also has ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

After high school graduation, Lee spent three years in the Marine Corps. After coming back home, he resumed being a mechanic that he’d been during high school. His love of vehicles, driving and working on them, led him to become a Nascar driver in the early 60s. He would wind up in Ohio as a mechanic at Donaldson Ford, Maumee, Ohio. While doing that, he broke his right hand and was asked to be a salesman for them. He was very successful and continued sales until 1970 when he started his own dealership (Lee’s Sales and Service) in Swanton, Ohio. By the time he retired in 2009, it had become the largest used vehicle full service dealership in Northwest Ohio. Also in the 70s, he became a Mason at Swanton Lodge.

After retirement, Lee then moved to Blue Creek, Ohio to enjoy the beauty and friendship of the area. Boating, bluegrass festivals, horseback riding, hiking, hunting and fishing were among his hobbies.

The Thompsin-Meeker Funeral Home of West Union has been entrusted with Lee’s cremation. There are no planned services at this time.
