Eva “Eve” Marie Pethtel, 87, of New Martinsville, WV departed this life on Thursday, June 10, 2021 while at Genesis New Martinsville Health Care Center.

Eva was born February 5, 1934 on Cider Run, Wetzel County, WV, a daughter of the late Albert Ray and Goldia (Morris) Taylor. She was a 1951 graduate of Magnolia High School and received her BS degree in Elementary Education from West Virginia University in 1965.

Eva taught in Wetzel County Schools for four years, worked a total of eleven years in the Wetzel County Clerk’s office and volunteered thirty-eight years in medical records at Wetzel County Hospital.

She was a member of New Martinsville Moose Lodge #931, Chapter #2165 New Martinsville, Order of the Eastern Star August Chapter # 6 in Mannington, WV, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 86 of Paden City and a Protestant by faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Pethtel, whom she married January 6, 1958. Jack passed away July 17, 2009. She was also preceded in death by the following brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws: Harry Neal Pethtel, Forrest and Helen Pethtel, Garold Pethtel, Harold Garrison, and Aldine Ashcraft, and one nephew, Mark Ashcraft.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Garrison of West Salem, OH and the following nieces and nephews: David and Mary Ann Pethtel, Nancy Ashcraft of Hundred, Larry and Donna Pethtel of St. Albans, Brad and Jane Garrison, Brian Garrison and Lisa Garrison of Ohio. She is also survived by one first cousin, Sam White of New Martinsville.

Friends received 2 – 5 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, where services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2021 with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville.
