WILLIAM McDONALD
William Fredrick McDonald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, in Glen Dale, West Virginia, at the age of 84. Born on September 25, 1941, in Moundsville, West Virginia, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community.
William served his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Brattleboro, where he forged lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of duty and service. Following his military service, he worked as a Potman for Ormet Aluminum, where he was known for his hard work and commitment.
A man of many interests, William found joy in gardening, camping, and fishing. He was a devoted member of the Ash Avenue Church of God, where he taught Sunday school and served as a church custodian. His contributions to the Church Property Board were greatly appreciated by all who knew him.
William was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Bober; his father, Eugene McDonald; his Mother, Helen B. (Bober) McDonald; and his sister, Norma Bersford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (West) McDonald of Moundsville; his sons, Jeff (Susan) McDonald of Sistersville, WV; and Gregory (Yolanda) McDonald of Moundsville WV; and his sisters, Sherry Brady of Moundsville, WV, and Terry Childress of South Pointe, OH. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Vanessa McDonald of Moundsville, WV, Kayla (Thomas) Longwell of Moundsville, WV, and Jeffrey (Carlie) McDonald of Weirton, WV; his great-granddaughter, Lyra Mae Longwell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 1st, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Lutes and Kirby Vance Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location. Interment will take place at Halcyon Hills Memorial Garden immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ash Avenue Church of God in Moundsville, WV, in honor of his memory.

William Fredrick McDonald will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and dedication to his community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
