John William “Bill” Kilcoyne, 90, of Mobley, West Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

Bill was born on October 11, 1926 in Mobley, West Virginia to Jack and Thelma (Shuman) Kilcoyne.  He graduated from Mannington High School, Fairmont State University, and West Virginia University.

He served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army.  He was a coach, mentor, and educator for 35 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Jack; mother, Thelma; and step-mother, Bernice Cunningham Kilcoyne.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Florence “Sister”  (Elliott) Kilcoyne; his two sons, John Kilcoyne of Goose Creek, SC; Dan Kilcoyne and his wife Angie of Charleston, SC; his daughter Molly Kilcoyne-Delaney and her husband Melvin Delaney of Mobley, WV; six grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Manley, Jessie and Drew Kilcoyne, and Maggie and Sadie Lowe; five step-grandchildren, Perry and Tricia Hayden,  Melvin and Jessica Delaney, and Rachel Smith; three sisters- in-law, Sue Gonzales, Sally Mills, and Phoebia Dickinson; one brother-in-law, Joe Elliott; and many very special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bill was a sweet and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who adored and valued his family.

He enjoyed life on the farm at his childhood home where he loved to garden, hunt squirrels, pick berries, and share his love of the great outdoors and farm life with others.  There he spent countless hours giving pony rides and teaching the ways of the farm to his young family members. His passion for educating youth was always evident, not only in academics but in life skills and character.  He was a classroom teacher, principal and Wetzel County Assistant Superintendent.  An avid reader, he loved the daily paper, western stories, and mysteries.

In addition, he was a huge fan of college football and basketball, especially the Mountaineers and the Fighting Irish.

He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he was very strong in his faith.

Bill was a wonderful role model for everyone who knew him, as well as an honorable man with great integrity.

The family will receive friends and family at Hutson Funeral Home in Mannington, WV on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 1 to 8 p.m.  A Vigil Service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 Sunday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mannington with Rev. Father Vincy Illickal as Celebrant.  Interment will follow at the Kilcoyne Cemetery in Mobley. Full Military Funeral Honors will be accorded by the Marion County Veterans Council.
