Switch to Chlorine Tablets Good Idea

Soon, St. Clairsville residents and municipal employees will be just a bit safer, thanks to a change being made in how the city treats wastewater.

Slightly more than a year ago, a few homes had to be evacuated for a time when chlorine gas leaked out of the wastewater treatment facility. City officials were alarmed enough to find an alternative to use of the gas.

It is chlorine in much safer tablet form, and new equipment to use it is being installed now. The change will cost about $20,000

Other municipalities and public service districts still using chlorine gas should consider following St. Clairsville’s example. Comparatively few dollars spent to avoid the hazard of leaks such as that last year would be money spent responsibly.
