Discuss Proposal With Constituents

Banning the practice of parking recreational vehicles, boats, trailers, etc. on public streets, as Wellsburg officials are considering, may be appropriate.

Telling people they cannot park such vehicles in their own driveways is something else again, however.

Wellsburg City Council members are to consider such bans during their Oct. 9 meeting.

Leaving big motorhomes, boats on trailers and the like parked on the street is undesirable for several reasons. City officials have every right to prohibit the practice.

But a proposed ordinance also would ban parking such equipment in front driveways or lawns for more than three days.

Before adopting such a measure, council members should discuss it with constituents, some of whom may find it difficult to comply with the proposed ban.
