Consider Being A Foster Family

Being a foster parent requires a special sort of person, obviously. Still, given the large number of compassionate people who live in Belmont County, it is a puzzle why there are only 35 foster families there.

They care for 48 children, but the need for foster homes is substantially greater than that, according to Vince Gianangeli, director of the county Department of Job and Family Services.

Blame the drug abuse epidemic for much of the increase in need.

The DJFS is planning a new series of classes for adults interested in becoming foster parents. They are scheduled from March 23-24 and March 30-31.

If you are interested in at least learning about whether foster parenting is something that could work in your life, we encourage you to call the DJFS, at 740-695-1075.
