– To the Ziegenfelder Co. of Wheeling for the free community concert it presented last Wednesday at the Heritage Port. It featured entertainment, “bounce houses” and face painting for the kids, hot dogs and frozen treats for everyone, all free of charge. It was the company’s way of saying “thank you” for community support after a fire damaged part of Ziegenfelder’s Wheeling plant.
– To the numerous organizations that sponsor area festivals held to educate local residents on other cultures and often, their own heritages. The most recent, the Fourth Annual Festival of India, was held Saturday in Wheeling.
– To the West Virginia Sheriffs’ Association for sponsoring its annual Youth Leadership Academy last week at West Liberty University. The event brought about 150 high school students from throughout the state to WLU.
– To Belmont County resident Ginny Favede, who has been named vice-chair of The Association of Union Constructors Local Employer Organizations. After a stint as a Belmont County commissioner, Favede became executive director of the Ohio Valley Construction Employers Council and co-chair of Project BEST about two years ago.
