Remind Children Of Bike Safety Rules
Two accidents involving children on bicycles have occurred in our area during the past several days. In one, a 9-year-old boy in Martins Ferry apparently rode his bike out in front of a car driven by a 17-year-old girl. The boy was injured seriously and hospitalized.
In the second accident, a 5-year-old girl was killed when a 17-year-old boy trying to find a parking space in a field backed his vehicle over her.
The common factor inboth accidents was, of course, youth.
Young drivers need to be reminded continually to pay close attention to their surroundings.
Little children have to be told frequently to be very careful anytime they are around motor vehicles.
Don’t take it for granted that your children understand these things. In all likelihood, they don’t.
Being what the kids view as a pest by reminding them of the safety rules may well save a life.
