Pats on the Back
– To Youth Services System Inc. of Wheeling, for deciding to open its Winter Freeze Shelter on Nov. 15, a month earlier than normal, for women only. The decision was made because the Salvation Army shelter stopped accepting women. The YSS shelter will be open for both men and women on Dec. 15.
– To the anonymous donor who contributed $10,000 to allow YSS to open its shelter to women earlier than normal.
– To Wheeling resident Diana Bell, who is stepping down from the municipal Human Rights Commission after 22 years of service. “It’s just time for someone else,” Bell said of her decision.
– To Ohio County Schools for its “Parents Connection” program. It is intended to give parents a networking opportunity during which they can talk about issues ranging from homework to social media. The gathering is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling.
