Hotel Evacuation Was Unavoidable
Some out-of-towners who spent Saturday night at the Springhill Suites Hotel in Wheeling may not have fond memories of the Friendly City.
At 10:40 p.m. that night, the hotel received a threatening phone call. It was taken seriously enough that the hotel was evacuated and Wheeling police searched every room. They found nothing worrisome.
By 3 a.m. guests were allowed to return to their rooms. Some took advantage of an emergency shelter set up by four American Red Cross volunteers, along with refreshments provided by Sheetz.
We hope the inconvenienced (and, presumably, tired) guests understood. In this day and age, threats of violence cannot be taken for granted. Good for police for handling the situation as swiftly as was possible.
