Keep Up the Drills

“Active shooter” drills in schools may seem overly dramatic to some people. And, there has been some criticism that such activities, occasionally featuring mock injuries, are too realistic.

What happened at a middle school in New Richmond, Ohio, earlier this month should quiet such criticism.

There, several students were injured during an active shooter drill, though no one was hurt badly.

According to school Principal Court Lilly, injuries resulted from “a chaotic few moments” because some students did not understand the procedure to evacuate the school. In other words, the students were not ready for an emergency.

Sadly, in this day and age, they need to be ready. Keep up the drills, educators and law enforcement agencies.
