Nutcracker Village Quite an Attraction

Here in the Ohio Valley, we really know how to celebrate the holidays. Our special events are worth a trip, even an overnight stay.

Wheeling’s Fantasy in Lights Parade draws units from hours away, along with thousands of spectators. Oglebay Park’s Festival of Lights is a nationally recognized attraction.

And now, the Nutcracker Village in Steubenville is open, and bigger and better than ever.

It is just what the name implies — displays of life-sized characters modeled after the ballet, “The Nutcracker.” No stage can match Steubenville, however. This year, there are more than 180 “nutcrackers” on display.

A variety of special activities, ranging from a children’s lantern parade set for 7 p.m. Friday to a huge model train village, are part of Steubenville’s celebration.

Most of the activities are free of change, thanks to sponsors and donors. Good for all involved in coming up with the idea, just five years ago, and making it a new holiday tradition.
