Keeping Drunken Drivers Off Roads

During a Labor Day weekend campaign against motorists who drive while intoxicated or distracted, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers based in St. Clairsville made 12 arrests for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. That may not seem like many — but consider this: The 12 now in serious trouble are only the intoxicated motorists who were spotted by troopers.

How many other threats to the public were out on area roads last weekend?

No doubt the number was a multiple of 12. Inebriated drivers have many techniques for avoiding notice by law enforcement personnel.

But each and every one of them is a menace to our safety and that of our families. It is incumbent upon the rest of us, then, to report those who drive drunk — and get them off area roads.
