Nailing Drug Kingpins
Three announcements by U.S. Attorney Bill Powell’s office regarding drug investigations and arrests during the past couple of months have been especially significant. Powell, located in Wheeling but serving the entire Northern District of West Virginia, is — in cooperation with many local law enforcers — hitting the illegal drug trade where it hurts.
Names of 35 people accused of involvement in drug rings were released in announcements made in Wheeling and Martinsburg.
Of the 35, 20 were out-of-state men and women from Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus and other hubs of illegal drug activity.
That is wonderful news. In addition to arresting local pushers, the authorities are nailing some kingpins — and that takes a bite out of drug crime.
